How To Use Keyword Planner For Keyword Research

In this blog post, we will go over the google keyword planner and how to use it for keyword research. This keyword planner is a free tool provided by Google in order to help businesses find keywords that they can target with Google Ads.

The google keyword planner is a great tool because it not only provides you with information on the search volume of a keyword but also gives you other valuable information such as the average monthly searches and competition for that keyword.

What Is The Google Keyword Planner?

The Google Ads Keyword Planner (known by some as the Google Ad Word Planner) is a free keyword tool that Google provides in order to help businesses find keywords that they can target with Google Ads.

Google’s Keyword Planner is a great keyword tool because it not only provides you with information on the search volume and forecasts of a keyword but also gives you other valuable information. With this tool, you can see average monthly searches and competition for that keyword, ad impression share, volume data, and other keywords related to what you want to target.

It essentially allows advertisers to see keyword ideas and get a keyword plan overview before they create a campaign using Google Ads.

What Are The Benefits Of The Google Keyword Planner?

The google keyword planner has a lot of great benefits for businesses. Some of the benefits include:

  • The google keyword planner tells you how many people are searching for a particular keyword each month, also known as monthly search volume. This is valuable information because it can help you determine whether or not it has the potential for your business to make money by targeting that keyword.
  • The google keyword planner also tells you how competitive a particular keyword is. This can help you determine what type of budget your business will need in order to be seen by google when that specific keyword has been searched for.
  • The google keyword planner allows businesses to see the top related keywords for any selected search query, which gives them insight on other potential keywords that they can target when doing keyword research.
  • Combining search volume and forecasts lets businesses predict their Google Ads results, allowing them to plan their search engine strategies before creating a campaign.

Who Should Use The Google Keyword Planner?

The google keyword planner is a tool that can be useful for anyone who has an online business or wants to get started with google ads.

If you are looking for new keywords to target, the google keyword planner is definitely something that should be used in order to give your business valuable information on what kind of competition there will likely be when using certain keywords

The google keyword planner can definitely be beneficial to any online business, but it is especially useful for those that have limited budgets and are trying to target keywords in their campaigns with a high ROI.

If you were looking at spending around $100 per day over the course of 30 days in order to get 100 clicks, then targeting a high-volume keyword that has low competition may be a better strategy than trying to target a lower volume keyword that has high competition.

How To Find The Google Keyword Planner

Now that you know what the google keyword planner is and some of its benefits, let’s go over how you can use it to help your business with keyword research.

To start using the Google Keyword Planner for your business, you first need to create a Google Ads account. Once you have created an account, you will be able to access the google keyword planner from within your ads dashboard or through a Google Search.

If you do not already have a Google Ads account, you need to create an account first in order to access Keyword Planner.

You can find the Google Keyword planner by going to google.com and typing in “Google keyword planner”. You can also find the Keyword Planner directly in your Google Ads account:

– Go into your Google Ads account.  Once inside Google Ads go ahead and click on Tools at the top of your screen.

– Then select Keyword Planner from the list of tools.

When you open up the Google Keyword Planner, you will be brought to a page that looks like this (assuming you have logged into a Google Ads account):

01 Why Every Business Needs To Use The Keyword Planner

The google keyword planner can be used in two different ways- by entering keywords manually in order to get new keyword ideas, or by uploading a list of keywords to get search volumes for these keywords.

In this blog post, we will be going over how to use the google keyword planner by entering keywords manually in order to get new keyword ideas.

How To Use The Google Keyword Planner

Let’s go over how to enter keywords manually. To do this you will want to click on the “Discover new keywords” button on the google keyword planner page.

Once you have clicked that you will be able to select the country and language that you aim to target with your ads (if it isn’t already selected), and then you can begin entering keyword ideas.

Doing Keyword Research

To begin using the google keyword planner for your own business, you first need to come up with a list of potential keywords.

You can find potential keywords for your business by doing a google search for your product or service and looking at the google results.

For example, if you were a dentist and wanted to find keywords for your business then google search “dentist near (my city)” or other similar phrases.

Using Your Keyword Research With The Keyword Planner

Once you have an idea of some potential keywords that we can use in the google keyword planner, go ahead and enter those into the search box.

Once you have entered one keyword at a time into the google keyword planner, click on “Get Results.”

After clicking this button, Google will take you to a results page, where you can get search volume and new keywords based on what Google thinks are related to the original keywords that you entered.

The google keyword planner will give you a list of related keywords that you can target. For example, if I enter “dentist” as my product or service, the google keyword planner will give me the following related keywords: dentist near me, toothache remedies, dental care tips, and more.

Google keyword planner will give you the following information for each of the keywords that you entered:

  • Average monthly search volume (or Average Monthly Searches)
  • Keyword Competition
  • Average Top of page bid (if you were to advertise on Google), including high range and low range bids.
  • Average Cost per Click for keyword ideas

Selecting Keywords

When you get search volume and keyword results from the keyword planner, you can pick which keywords to target by looking at the “Avg monthly searches” column. The higher the avg monthly searches, the more popular that keyword is. However, you will also want to look at the “Competition” column and make sure that the competition for that keyword isn’t too high. If it is then you might not want to target that keyword.

When you have found a good keyword that you would like to target, click on the “Add” button next to each of your keywords in order to add them to the Google ad planner. Go ahead and do this for all of the suggested keywords from google.

When using the google keyword planner for campaigns with a limited budget, it is often ideal to focus on long-tail keywords because these are less competitive and have a higher chance of being successful.

It’s also a good idea to use broad match keywords in order to get accurate data for the google keyword planner tool. The reason you want to do this is that Google will give advertisers more targeted results if they are using match types other than broad match.

Once you have selected your target keywords, you need to add your keywords to a plan. A plan is a collection of keywords that you want to track and measure the performance of. You can create as many different plans as you like in the Google Keyword Planner.

After you have created your plan, Google will show you the estimated traffic volume for each keyword in that particular group.

It also shows a forecast of how much google predicts you could spend if you were to advertise on the keywords that are part of your plan.

It’s important to note the date range that google is using for these calculations. The date range defaults to the last 28 days, but you can select any other time frame that you would like.

The next step is to create your campaign. A google ad planner campaign is simply a way for you to group your ads together so that you can measure their performance separately. You can create multiple google ad planner campaigns and add different ads to each one.

What Is The Difference Between Search Volume and Keyword Difficulty?

Search volume is the number of people who have searched for a particular keyword in google over the course of a month. This is the metric that you will want to focus on when trying to determine how popular a keyword is.

Keyword difficulty, on the other hand, is Google’s estimate of how difficult it would be to rank in the top spot for a particular keyword. This metric takes into account various factors such as the number of competing pages and the level of competition.

When you are trying to decide which keywords to target, you will want to look at the search volume and the keyword difficulty. You will want to focus on targeting keywords that have a high search volume but a low keyword difficulty. This is because it will be easier for you to rank in the top spot for these keywords and they will also have a larger impact on your business.

One important thing to remember about how google calculates keyword difficulty is that it doesn’t consider a particular website or advertiser as a factor when determining keyword competitiveness. Instead, it looks at how many advertisers are bidding on a keyword and how much they are spending on ads for that keyword.

Drawbacks To The Google Keyword Planner

Even though google keyword planner is a great tool, there are some drawbacks. One such drawback is that Google doesn’t take into account the quality of the websites that are targeting a particular keyword when calculating competitiveness.

So, even if you have a low-quality website, you could still rank for a high competition keyword if you were to target it!

Additionally, google keyword planner doesn’t take into account the quality of the ads that are being shown for a particular keyword. This could lead to advertisers overspending on their campaigns because they might be targeting keywords with low-quality ads.

Another limitation of google keyword planner is that google doesn’t provide data on google shopping. So, if you are looking to do google shopping campaigns, you will need to use a different tool in order to get accurate data.

Summary

Google’s Keyword Planner is an incredibly valuable tool for any business that wants to do their own google ads for their product or service. It’s a great way to do keyword research and find long-tail keywords that you can target with your google ad campaigns.

The google keyword planner tool is incredibly valuable as it gives you all of the data that you need in order to see if something will be successful before actually going ahead with it.

It also gives you a good idea of how much it will cost to advertise on google and what the estimated traffic volume is for your keywords on your search network.
